PostSubject: Sorry it took me a while...but here I am.   Thu 02 Sep 2010, 10:24 pm

I'm a 33 year old wife and mother of two boys. (Another one!) I teach elementary school and am fortunate to teach only in the morning so I can be home with my kids in the afternoon. I've been away from forums the past few weeks getting ready for a new school year. Please don't kick me out yet! I'll admit up front that I am very new at writing and at forums and at critiquing other people's work. I am not confidant about critiquing other's work. I promise to get over it quickly and help you all out the best that I can. I don't have any writer's in my life to discuss this stuff with, so I really need this!

Thanks for getting this going. Writeoncon was such a learning experience for me.

I completed my first novel in May after 6 months of writing and after the critiques from writeoncon decided to rewrite it, including what would have been a future prequel and changing from first person to third. It's either fantasy or paranormal..and that's enough to show you how incredibly inexperienced I am. I can't even decide on its genre!!! It's title is/was Solstice.

But, I'm taking a step back from that project and am 8,000 words into a new one. This one is a contemporary romance..the title changes often. I recently resaved it as Fixing Shelby.

I have a paragraph of a MG novel written too...!

So...I look fwd to getting to know each of you and your writing!

Christy

Hi Christy, welcome on board! Another mum, hooray!!!

Looking forward to working with you and reading some of your work. Don't worry about genre, we can give you a hand with that. Check out my "Let's Get This Damn First Draft Challenge" post as well, that might help in your revisions Smile

Oh honey, this place is still pulling itself together. Right now, the rules and regulations and the grounds for dismissal are there so people can get familiar with them for when the ball REALLY gets roll.

Yes, really gets rolling. We're only operating at partial capacity at the moment, I still have a lot of things to set up for you guys!

Anyway, welcome Christy, we're so glad you're here. And everyone starts off as a beginner. No one is born an expert at anything.

You're still welcome to vote in polls and participate in the silliness and the cupcakes. ^_^

Hope to see you around!

Welcome Christy, glad to have you here. I am quite new to the writing world too and am having a blast stumbling my way through and I'm certain that no matter how much experience I get over the years, I will still stumble!

Very Happy

Razz

I swear I saw a glint of a blade in El's robe! She acts all nice and sweet, but when the ball starts rolling, she'll have us dancing on hot coals! pale

No, I'm just kidding, El's a sweet gal Twisted Evil We're all people with busy lives, and half of us have kids. Like El said, we're just getting settled. And as for being a new writer - most of us are! I am Smile I wrote my first manuscript two years ago, but it was sitting in a drawer until the beginning of this year. It wasn't until then that I started learning about writing.

I'm glad you found us, and I'm sure you'll fit in like a banana in a peel. (Sorry, just got back from Creative Writing class).

ETA: Charlie Eve, I could stare that flower dance for hours! It's hypnotizing.

Yay! Another early 30s mom! Lol! Don't worry, I am, like others here, new to writing as well. I am working on my first MS as well and actually it sounds like we are going through a very similar process with our books. I am 3/4 of the way through EVOKE and after WriteOnCon I went back, changed tenses and I ended up going from 3rd to 1st person, I have changed my first page SOOOO many times and though I've labeled it a Paranormal I am torn about adding historical, romance or both to it, then I think about how the third installment I have in my head for it will be in a dystopia society, hmmm, tricky, very tricky. So, don't worry, there others in the same boat Wink This is a great group, with great people. Welcome!!

Ooh thanks Marieke, I totally needed that! It has a little oxidization going on since it is always hanging over my head. *presses palms together as anthem of angels crescendos* What a Face
