PostSubject: I'll go first!   Fri 20 Aug 2010, 1:57 pm

Seems sort of fitting.

I wanna say welcome again first, I hope this is up to snuff. Always looking for suggestions and idea on how to make it better, but for now let's just get it going.

I'm El! Pen name, L. L. McKinney--there's nothing out there with that tag except muh facebook page--I write paranormal urban fantasies. Not sure if that's redundant or not. Well, I don't think it is but I learn new things every day in this world.

My website is Off on a Tangynt, and under the Follow Me tab there are links to various things I'm into all over the web! I am looking for both a critique partner and an online group. Several people with similar goals who are eager to help and be helped.

That's about it. Who's next?

My friend *points @ Marieke* is laughing her head off, asking if I could sound any more English?! Embarassed
I've considered adding "Yours sincerely" but that's pushing it. Alternatives are: "Ta", "Thanks Gov" and well it goes downhill from there... but I mean it, thanks.
Hey at least I didn't go "Vielen dank."

Mate, she'll be right. I'm stoked to be here in this beaut forum, ay!!!

LOL Smile

I must say though, as your token Aussie, it's great to have an Englishchick on board - someone to forgive me when I spell "realised" rather than "realized" Smile tee hee.

We learn British-English at school here, and even after a very long manuscript, I still need Word to remind me that it's favorite and not favourite, realized and not realised Razz

My problem exactly. Though it's getting easier now I've just started writing my whole manuscript in US english right from the start Smile

It's the idioms I'm having trouble with - sometimes I write something and my US critique partners have no idea what I'm saying Smile I never realized that such similar languages had so many different ways of saying something...

Keeps us on our toes, I guess! LOL

Same here, but when it comes to forums I just switch to whatever is the prevailing way of spelling Smile The first time around my mind kept screaming US spelling was WRONG!!!1!1! but it's getting easier now Wink As long as I don't use things like 'chuffed' and 'miffed'!

I've a weird fascination with languages. (Idioms are so interesting!!! </geek>) I like the cultural references, slang, dialects, accents. So much so that I tend to collect expressions like they're stamps. And I invariably pick out the wrong accents in movies, which can be very annoying to those around me. Or so I've been told Razz

I've not mastered Aussie slang yet though. Only enough to understand John Marsden's Tomorrow series (I want that movie, like now). And Waltzing Mathilda. But that seems a bit cliché lol!

I keep yelling at my spell checker when it insists on changing "realised" to "realized"... “colour” to “color” I'm getting used to it. Rolling Eyes
Though it's interesting to read Marieke's stuff with American spellings when I'm writing in English.

It's funny - I write now straight to US english, and I've got a beta reader in Australia who keeps correcting my spelleng LOL

I'll teach you some Aussie slang, Marieke Smile It's pretty much like British, to be honest. We use "I'm stoked!" a lot (tee hee). Will see what I can come up with.
